THE IRONY OF LIFE
By Christine Matenga
Digging it out so deep
out of the depths of the mind, it is not a shocker to realize that exactly what
we cannot have are the exact things we desire, we envy, we want. It is not the
fact that you think you deserve something that rightfully gives you the
strength to go for it rather it is the power of your negotiating skills that
gets you there and when rightfully knowing you have that power you go for
whatever you want to have which you know do not deserve. Such irony so deep
engraved in the face of life.
The irony of life so
distinct it shows everywhere you turn your face to, you see it the burning
passions that ends up in taking lives instead of giving it, leading to the
outbursts of tears instead of loud laughs, leading to the breaking of hearts
instead of making of love. The people we love, we do not usually end up with,
we lose where we invested in the most, and our words break instead of building.
Such irony that exists, that the simplest of things are the things that matter
the most either making or breaking lives apart.
No matter how some
individual works so hard they still die a pauper, whilst the other is born with
a silver spoon in their platters and never raise a hand to work any harder and
thrive upon the sweat and blood of the one who works very hard, such irony we
never come out alive where we thought we will, where we invested every last
dime in our pockets.
Some might say life is
not fair, oh well, yes it is buried under the sharp edge of the irony of life,
where you never get to reap where you sowed just because someone else was
simply more powerful than you are because of certain circumstances. Such irony when
you finally realize that a bed of roses you saw from a distance is actually a
bush of thorns, to get the beautiful roses you have to pass through the bush of
thorns, where you get to eat the honey only after you get bitten by deadly
small creatures that might just kill a really big human being, such irony so
distinct it always shows.
Such irony so
devastating your face smiles whilst your heart is frowning, you utter the words
“I’m fine”, whilst you actually mean “I’m broken”. We so seem happy whilst we
are only vessels with nothing inside. Life is an irony in its self, you are
born so you should die, why then are we happy when we have a new born baby among us rightfully knowing it’s a grave in the making, only time will tell,
we are happy just because we have embraced the irony of life, we have embraced
that life in itself is an irony.
