In the spirit that we are in of the new year and new goals , new energy and everything, i just thought it should not go without being mentioned that we need to renew our lost love for whatever we used to love so much in our lives.
I generally have a strong liking for reading since i was a young girl and from where it came from I totally have no idea but as i grew up realized it was actually a good habit to have because it perfected my speech, taught me new spellings and introduced a whole new world of learning altogether . In my journey as a person I have realized that there are a number of things that might come in one's way to disrupt good habits such as exercise, eating healthy, reading, drinking water and this disruption is generally life itself. As we grow older we start having too many pressures, many commitments, work, relationships and eventually marriages and children which means more other commitments. We tend to lose ourselves in the process and some forget their passion or purpose or rather just things we used to enjoy a lot when we were younger. Other people even lose themselves and totally become whole new individuals they cannot even recognize themselves. I understand this is just life as we know it.
Just as the year is starting ,it is good timing to rekindle your lost love. If you did not think about other kinds of love which i definitely am not talking about, heads up to you, you a genius lol. Anyway I am talking about some of your habits that just gave you life before, it could be writing, could be reading, could be doing music, drawing, for some even exercising, I reckon there are some people who really love exercising, although to me it is that kind of a love-hate relationship (which is beside the point), some people feel so happy when doing it, it could be anything really, i am saying lets rekindle the love.
How do you achieve this? If you have no time at all it is okay, but just listen to this, you do not need more than thirty minutes to start to skip a rope again, you do not need an hour to write one sentence of that your unfinished book, you do not need two hours to read five pages of a book unless you are a really really slow reader which is okay because even if you read three pages in an hour it is still reading right, you can always pick up from there tomorrow. Start a challenge, challenge yourself this year to just do one thing that used to make you happy before life happened. It is hard to create a good habit but feels really good when that habit sticks.
You need at least twenty-one days to establish a habit and that is exactly three weeks. This means that it is not too late to start today or tomorrow, just start. As the year is beginning, with some people still penning down their resolutions pen down this new challenge and schedule it however you feel comfortable with to make sure you do not miss this again this year. Do not listen to that inner voice, oh I know it , yes that little one that is scheming and a thief of time, it tells you every time, I mean every darn time ,"don not worry Chris there is still time, you will do it later, see you have this you have that , you can read later..." The moment you listen to this voice later becomes tomorrow, tomorrow becomes next week, which will become next month and you will forget about it, you get the picture right? I know you do.
So as for me I used to read a lot, a lot i mean i could read two to three books in a week and it was so fulfilling to turn the last page of the book and say yes I did it, I just finished it. No it is not a competition or anything that gives you pressure but to cultivate a culture of finishing what you started in your life is a fulfilling habit. Beat Procrastination, Start now, Just Do It , in the words of Nike. Just start with what you have , where you are, just rekindle the love for that one thing, or two if you know what I mean.
This year I'm rekindling my love with my books, I am doing the 50 books Reading Challenge where I aim to have read at least 50 books by the end of 2019 . Even if I reach 35 I would be so proud of myself because i would have at least started a good habit that is beneficial to me and kept on with it. The point is to do something you love whilst at it benefiting your mind and your health.
Lets conquer and conquer the world , Just do it !!!
